Teen without License Hits and Kills Police Officer

The Fourth of July holiday turned tragic for the Metro Nashville Police Department when one of their officers was hit and killed in a traffic accident at about 3:00 a.m.

The incident began when the police got a call about an individual who was “standing in the middle of traffic.” They sent an officer to see what was happening.

On the way to the scene, the officer was driving through an intersection when his car was hit by another vehicle. The impact was so violent that he passed away instantly. He was just 28 years old.

The driver of the other car was even younger though: a 17-year-old girl. Reports indicate that she did not have a valid driver’s license at the time. Not only that, but she had already committed a lane violation, and another officer tried to pull her over. She ran away, causing the car accident as she fled.

As such, she has now been given the following charges: Felony evading arrest, vehicular homicide by recklessness, driving on a suspended license, aggravated assault by recklessness and juvenile curfew violation.

The police officer had been with the force for four years. He left behind his girlfriend and his 18-month-old son.

This story shows how a string of poor choices can easily lead to a tragic accident, as each poor decision is compounded by the last. When people take these types of chances and engage in such reckless behavior, they cause accidents that could easily have been avoided.
